This gives the City and the Port a chance to return to the framework established after the original industrial lands legislation. That MOU included County, Tribes, ST, and creates a mechanism for creating living wage jobs AND affordable housing.
JUST IN: Washington's Growth Management Hearings Board has invalidated the Seattle City Council's ordinance legalizing housing in a small slice of SoDo near the sports stadiums, siding with the Port of Seattle in its appeal against the move.

I spent the day at the airport yesterday, reviewing operations with our team and with Congressman Larsen, Ranking Member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. If you are traveling soon, check your airline’s website or app for flight updates before you leave for the airport.
A heartfelt "thank you" to all the TSA, CBP, and FAA workers at SEA who are continuing to work through the government shutdown. As of today, security checkpoint wait times are still under our goal of less than 20 minutes. Be aware things can change.

Thank you, Congresswoman Jayapal, for stopping by SEA to learn about the impacts of the shutdown and efforts to support federal workers.
I visited @flysea.bsky.social to meet with staff who have been affected by the Republican shut down.

So many folks are working without pay, and wondering when or if their next paycheck will come. It’s time for Republicans to end this shutdown now.

It’s as if Kennedy decided that we should be the best in the world at making horsedrawn carriages, instead of winning the space race.

It is day 6 of the federal government shutdown but the Port of Seattle is open for business.

Thank you to our federal workers for keeping our region moving.

Yes! Grateful to get to learn from her every day.
So proud of my friend Commissioner Hamdi Mohamed for standing up for Seattle’s immigrant communities at every turn.

As we fight back against this administration’s cruelty towards immigrants, I’m grateful to have partners like Hamdi.

A rising star in Seattle politics grapples with limited options against Trump’s agenda
Hamdi Mohamed manages immigration issues for Seattle and directs policy at Sea-Tac Airport. Still, her power to counter President Trump’s agenda is limited.

Climate Week NYC started off hot with a federal judge blocking a Trump order that stopped a major offshore wind project and Kimmel getting back on air. Good vibes only as we work on advancing the Blue Economy.

While Don Quixote Trump is tilting at windmills, China is building ever larger versions that will quietly power thousands of homes without coal or gas. This remarkable self own by the US means higher utility bills, fewer jobs, and slipping further behind in innovation. Embarrassing.

Got to start my day with an opportunity to talk about shorepower. We are the 2nd cruise port in the world to offer plugin for vessels and as of this year, all of our berths are 100% shorepower capable.

In this issue, I share a report out of my time at the United Nations Ocean Conference last month in Nice. Ocean-based innovation holds much promise, but we will need all-hands-on-deck to bring it to scale.

The world is moving on. As US port throughput drops, Asian and European port traffic is increasing as trade flows divert around the US to avoid our tariffs and uncertainty.

Warehouse vacancy rates in the US are at an 11 year high. Whatever slack was in the supply chain to accommodate tariffs is gone at this point. Inventories are drawn down and product hitting store shelves now will carry at least a 10% tariff burden. ⬆️ prices, ⬇️ sales 🟰 economic downturn.

As the next self-imposed tariff deadline approaches, it’s a good time to point out that the consequences don’t kick in for consumers (and the economy) for many months. Anticipatory purchases and inventory drawdowns blunt early price pressure. Any fix will require months to undo the damage.
