Each archetype has its own strategic focus, its own positioning to succeed in using social impact to achieve its business goals, and areas to navigate with caution and intention.
Four corporate social impact archetypes: 1. Shareholder maximizer: Primary motivation is short-term shareholder value. Not many resources are applied to social impact. Strategy emphasizes risk mitigation. 2. Corporate contributor: Social impact is driven by external factors and focused on key stakeholder relationships; strategy is siloed within the firm. 3. Impact integrator: Social impact is integrated within firm strategy, across business units, and is used as input to explore new market opportunities. Possesses positive customer perception. 4. Social innovator: Social impact is integral to strategy, embedded in processes and across business units. Business creates socially conscious goods/services and markets. To counter misconceptions around the true work behind #DEI, I find this graphic from RPC LLC helpful in showing how it encourages best practices within an organization to not only support its employees, but also create fair & inclusive economic impact for communities & other business stakeholders.
