Personally, what I’d really like to see is a movie that uses Kylo and Finn as foils for each other. They have some shared influences. Add to that that Kylo is portrayed as having been groomed through the Force while TRoS claims the Force prevented Finn

And it doesn’t need to be compelling to you because we all find different things compelling. We all have different experiences, even when there’s overlap that make one thing resonate more strongly with you and another thing with me.

And a lot of that is because those two religions have claims regarding Jewish legacy in their sacred texts. Coupled with the idea among some that conquest must be permanent for them but not for anyone else…

the 2nd century CE. I would argue that what you’re describing sounds more like being Noahide and Muslims already match that. Even Christians can be argued to fit in with the Noahide requirements.

And, yes, the first Christians were Jews but their original beliefs were significantly different from what their beliefs were in most Christian communities even 2-3 generations later. The original Christian beliefs were much more akin to Chabad than to Christianity as it has existed since

Buddhists technically already can, depending on the form of Buddhism. And part of being Jewish is having claim to Jewish legacy so I don’t see how your proposal of allowing Christians and Muslims to be Jews on that condition would work.

is its laws and how those laws are applied. Most of those aren’t inherently religious at all but get labelled religious because they’re mostly shape religion and the ethnopolitical system are so intertwined.

On one hand, yes. On the other hand, we already have giyur that allows atheists to convert while still atheist or agnostic. And I’d say it’s about the Covenant but most specifically as a covenant between Jews. Part of that ethnopolitical system

And then they can decide from there how they want to relate to them. Kind of like how parts of American culture don’t make much sense if you don’t understand how Christianity has affected the culture or Jordanian culture if you don’t understand how Islam has impacted the culture.

I agree that naturalization fits better. Or perhaps adoption. I do think, though, that, whether a ger is secular or not, they should at least know the religious aspects because they’re mostly shape so much of our culture and how we understand the world.

Yeah, I discovered that problem, too. Some stores had a kosher section but most kosher food was only available through Chabad or taking a 2-3 hour trip to a neighboring state.

Oh, that’s a really cool way to set up the class! Mine was at the Conservative synagogue where I lived and our rabbi encouraged us to explore other parts of the local Jewish community. It would have been lovely to get to learn from rabbis across the various local Jewish communities.

He’s not every moody white teenaged boy with a Nazi phase. He’s a grooming victim. It’s very, very explicit in the films and books. That’s why people care about him. That does not AT ALL have to be at the expense of BIPOC stories nor should it be. I’d love a Finn movie, too. Same for Rose.

Personally, I’d love a movie with Rey looking for Ben while Finn and Jannah learn what she picked up from the Jedi texts and Poe and Rose help establish a galactic democracy that has some better safeguards than the two before it. Or maybe work in de-Imperializing former First Order worlds.

The two are pretty consistent in their comorbidity. It’s not all the time but it’s rare to find transphobia without antisemitism, even among Jews.
