We do so much brown field development internally (think React Native task panes / floating windows in Microsoft Office) that I forget how performant a blank app can be 😅, thanks @jayz.us for trying it out!
I made an app that opens faster than any Mac app I've seen, loading a 5500 line markdown file instantly.
It's not Swift. Not Rust. Not C++.
It's JavaScript! react-native-macos is INSANELY fast 🤯
And 10% the size of an Electron app!
I had no idea RN on desktop is this good.

We do so much brown field development internally (think React Native task panes / floating windows in Microsoft Office) that I forget how performant a blank app can be 😅, thanks @jayz.us for trying it out!

At WWDC 2024, Apple added a new API for creating custom UI effects using Metal shaders. I wanted to see if you could do the same with React Native. With react-native-skia, you can! Left is the Apple demo, right is skia on react-native-macos 😃

Success! For Christmas this year, I got React Native Skia working on macOS!
Along the way I learned quite a bit about Shaders, WebGPU, and just how extensively Skia is used. It's such an interesting space! I'm glad there are still new things to learn in UI dev 😎

Not flashy, but I'm excited about this PR from @tommy.nguyen.works in React Native macOS that moves our CI publish pipelines to use @nx.dev ! Prior to this, we had a mix of spaghetti and inherited code from React Native Core that didn't scale as we did more releases

Starting to look at what it would take to get react-native-skia on macOS. The first step is moving the example app to react-native-test-app. This already has the benefit of combining the previously separate paper and fabric example apps.
