Labour has gone to war with already desolate NHS community mental health services. And today's BBC headlines, side by side.
Please go to the anti-austerity protest in London on June the 7th.

Our Manchester unison & @unitetheunion.bsky.social Safer Staffing Strikers down supporting the #BirminghamBinStrike. Massive turnout. Claire Miller (NEC Health seat candidate) from @unison.org.uk spoke of our solidarity for these poorly treated workers.

48% of children in Manchester live in poverty, and that's up 16% since 2015.
Poor nutrition means UK children are on average, three centimeters shorter than other European kids.
Meanwhile, our 57 English billionaires add £35 million to their fortunes each day.

Solidarity to Irish mental health strikers. We attended the #WeDemandChange summit yesterday in London & heard @richardboydbarrett.pbp.ie speak with pride about your efforts. We've been striking for the same reasons over the past 6 months in Manchester. All the best & keep in touch!

The government stopped producing easy read graphs when reporting the preventable deaths rates each year. No prizes for guessing when they decided against releasing the information in graph form:

Demoralise, dehumanise, divide & conquer.
They pitt the 'have somes' against the 'have nots' & the 'have nots' against the 'have nothings'.
They want NHS privatisation, because the healthcare of the many, stands in the way of the wealth of the few.

People with mental health conditions die 15-20 years early. Would you settle for dying at 56 (men) or 60 (women)?
People with MH difficulties in Manchester are four times more likely to die younger than those in wealthier, less ethnically diverse parts of England.

Thanks to Blossom in Chorlton, Manchester for our floral tribute to the 43,800 people with mental health difficulties who die yearly due to preventable illnesses. Blossoms did a great job & gave us a massive discount.

This was the last graph produced by the government on preventable deaths amongst people with mental health problems. If you think that looks bad, wait and see the new data version.

@demandchangemcr.bsky.social
Looking forward to attending the #WeDemandChange conference on Saturday. Is anyone else joining us?

One important item on our agenda is the preventable deaths scandal in mental health. We updated the government graph using the most recent RCP data:

Hello @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
Tories stopped easy access to statistics on preventable deaths amongst those with mental health difficulties. We've used Royal College of Psychiatrist data to update the graph from 2021. We were called alarmist as 'the death rate has plateaued since covid'

Claire Miller has organised, led & inspired us 'Safer Staffing Strikers' as we fight for the services our patients need. Kevin Corran & Jordan Rivera have supported & joined our pickets every step of the way. @unison.org.uk please vote for Claire, Kevin & Jordan.

The wealthiest want to privatise the NHS, because the healthcare of the many, stands in the way of the WEALTH OF THE FEW.
March 17, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Today, the billionaires strategy is to demoralize, dehumanize, divide, and conquer.
They pit the ‘have somes’ against the ‘have nots,’ and the ‘have nots’ against the ‘have nothings’, distracting us from inequality and corruption.
March 17, 2025 at 6:35 AM
Hungry children & vulnerable mental health patients suffer, while the richest accumulate more & more. Every expense like the Manchester Town Hall, act as shining examples of privilege as THEY CHOOSE to leave children hungry & CHOOSE to ignore this preventable deaths scandal.

Meanwhile, our 57 English billionaires add £35 million to their fortunes each day.
Whilst preserving nice buildings is important, currently spending £430 million renovating Manchester Town Hall as 48% of Manchester children
live in poverty is what? What word would you use?
March 17, 2025 at 6:20 AM
48% of children in Manchester live in poverty, heartbreaking stuff, and that's up 16% since 2015.
Poor nutrition means UK children are on average, three centimeters shorter than other European kids.
March 17, 2025 at 6:09 AM
In Manchester, if you have significant mental health problems, you're TWICE AS LIKELY to die younger compared to the rest of the country, and FOUR TIMES MORE LIKELY to die years younger than those in wealthier, less ethnically diverse areas.
