Through the act of setting it to fire, you are releasing that plant matters spirit from the physical to the ethereal. You are allowing that plant to carry your intention and at the same time elevating the plant spirit itself. Or at least that’s my perspective on it.

When you burn the plant matter as an incense not only are you working with that plant spirit to aid in your spell, and not only are you using that plant material as an offering to another spirit. But the act of burning the plant material can be seen as an offering to the plant spirit itself.
