I couldn’t find hoba anywhere in Vancouver, and when testing you need to follow the recipe exactly! Fukuya in Richmond kindly ordered some from Japan. They were about $20 for 10 very large magnolia leaves. I also harvested & dried local magnolia leaves, I’m curious to see how they compare.

Our new favourite tea, from the Sun Yat Sen Garden gift shop, is a blend of rose petals, lemongrass, and camomile. Rose petals are really nice in most kinds of tea!

The teenager here made rose simple syrup, and uses it in matcha. The flavours complement each other really nicely.

The City of Vancouver Coat of Arms halloween costume definitely gave me false hope. I figured if they could pull that off, they could figure out a coordinated set of candidates, and rally around a Mayor.

Here’s a trick. Public Health Units continue to have vaccination clinics for kids. When mine were little, we would take them for their routine / yearly vaccines and the nurses were happy to vaccinate parents for covid & flu at the same time. The # for qathet Immunization Clinic is 604-485-3310.
