Every city that Trump sends troops into should organize a city-wide #GeneralStrike, both as a protest, and to protect vulnerable workers. And if other people outside the city want to join in for solidarity, that's great. Shut everything down. The fascists are outnumbered. Make their economy bleed

Wow, you are such a smug asshole. I mean, I knew you wouldn't admit you were wrong, but damn. No wonder the left can't ever seem to unite. Go argue with somebody you actually disagree with on something substantial
sashasubotich.bsky.social
You are describing the results of capitalism, not the concept itself. Capitalism is simply when markets are left to their own devices. Yes, it always leads to massive inequality and abuse. But it does so efficiently, because it requires no additional effort like regulation or accountability
sashasubotich.bsky.social
If you just want to shit on capitalism, go for it man. I'm a socialist. But you aren't contributing anything to the conversation by ignoring my explanation and accusing me of swallowing propaganda. Capitalism will always exist. We need to understand it to control it
sashasubotich.bsky.social
You're misunderstanding the meaning of efficiency. It is efficient because it requires no extra work, not because it results in the best outcome (or anything close to it). I'm not advocating for capitalism, I'm just describing a free market. Controlling it requires work, and thus is less efficient
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Capitalism does have one useful purpose. It allocates scarce resources efficiently. The problem with that is that market efficiency doesn't care about equity, or even survival. It can be used effectively within systems that prioritize those vital human things over the cold efficiency of free markets
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Capitalism isn't a weapon we can simply take away. Wherever there is scarcity, there will be capitalism. Attempts to completely remove all capitalism always resort to authoritarian communism, which is unsustainable, and unnecessary. Controlled markets with a powerful social safety net is superior

One of the problems the modern left has is that it often adopts the terminology of the right rather than countering it. Words we use for ourselves frequently become slurs, and we just accept that and try a new word. Not me. I don't care what stupid people think
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Yes. She's a very nice cat
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Good choice. I wish more top level Democrats stood with their constituents instead of their donors. And yes, fuck Trump and all his fascist enablers
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Weapons are also just tools, and they can be controlled if we try. If good people don't use them, evil people still will. More good people need to study these weapons so they understand how they are dangerous, and when they can be made useful for noble purposes

Cancer is just unregulated growth. Capitalism is fine in controlled circumstances with clear limits. It works fine for distributing unnecessary luxuries, but not for basic human needs like medicine. It's only when it takes precidence over vital systems and strangles them that it kills the host
sashasubotich.bsky.social
So much of conservatism is just nostalgia for a time that never was. Youth is a time of ignorance, and ignorance is bliss
sashasubotich.bsky.social
You can't take states at their words, especially about themselves. Just ask the so-called "Democratic Republic" of North Korea
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Agreed. Accountability is a fundamental aspect of any functioning society. I wish it wasn't so rare
sashasubotich.bsky.social
I never said those places were socialist. Far from it. China is not socialist, and neither is Canada or any European country. Social programs are still necessary, and fully in line with socialism. Just because they can fail or be abused doesn't make them wrong or useless
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Perhaps not truly fundamental, but they are always necessary. The key to a functioning society is to keep capitalism firmly under the thumb of socialism, rather than the opposite, as it always seems to be. Power must remain with the people, and competition must always serve the greater good
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Yes. But we've all seen what happens when markets and competitions don't have rules. It gets very ugly, very fast. If people's lives depend on it, it becomes a fight to the death. Capitalism is like fire. It must be kept small and controlled or it will consume and destroy everything
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Selfishness is absolutely a core tenet of Capitalism, and it does lead to hate. Capitalism is only viable in controlled settings. Left to itself, or worse, held up as a universal good, it inevitably leads to social alienation and collapse of public trust. Capitalist government is just oligarchy
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Fair social programs are actually a fundamental aspect of socialism. Socialism can be a good thing. People should stop balking at a word they've been conditioned to fear and consider what it really means
sashasubotich.bsky.social
It's just the three Cs.

Complacency
Complicity
Corruption

The oligarchs already own everything. The Democratic party is just their faux-progressive wing

It will be a nightmare unlike anything anyone living in the USA has ever known. The alternative may also be a nightmare, however, as fascism has the potential to kill millions of innocent captives. It's a no-win scenario. Is it better to die in a war against evil, or in a country overrun by it?

Biden could have had them all arrested, every Republican. He could even have had them executed by the military, and he could have gotten away with it, because the supreme court said presidents are above the law. He only protected his own family, and he threw the rest of the country to the wolves
sashasubotich.bsky.social
Yeah... There aren't enough characters to actually list the USA's crimes. And it's such a relatively young country, too. Not that it's alone in its depravity. History is filled with countless villians and precious few heros
sashasubotich.bsky.social
There have been strides, though I don't think any American president was a totally good person. Obama killed civilians with drones. Biden fully supported a genocide. The best of America was always, at best, a mixed bag. Corruption always advanced, and now Trump is a cancer ready to kill what's left
