Excited to see my magnum opus published! Here, we explore how age correlates with changes in STAT signaling and modulates the immune response towards inflammation. See for youself!
Also, it's been a long time since pre-print, so here's the reworked explainer thread!

Rewired type I IFN signaling is linked to age-dependent differences in COVID-19
Petrov et al. identify an age-dependent shift in interferon signaling during SARS-CoV-2 infection, with older individuals favoring a STAT3-driven inflammatory response. This mechanistic insight helps ...

Exciting to see this story out — showing that children with MIS-C have high levels of TGFβ, which weakens T cells and reactivates EBV. Blocking TGFβ reversed this effect, making this a potential treatment option!

Proud to have contributed our part!
TGFβ links EBV to multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children - Nature
Multisystem inflammatory syndrome following SARS-CoV-2 infection results from increased serum levels of TGFβ, which impairs the reactivation of virus-specific T cells.

Visited two events with a focus that was new to me - on tech- and methodology.
Helpful, technical input and discussions that are often lacking in broader events!

As part of BIH Diversity Month, Katherine Deane visited the BIH@Charité and stopped by our lab.

Katherine is a renowned expert on accessibility and inclusivity, and we had great time discussing ways to make our lab and the broader scientific community more inclusive!

We're exploring how EBV-driven T- and B-cell communication disruptions impact patients across all age groups. Our aim is to uncover disease mechanisms, identify biomarkers for early diagnosis, and develop targeted therapies. 💡
