-an effect too. I do miss the interactivity of a real comments section like I get when I post fanfic. But then again, on original works, the commenters are *customers,* so maybe a little more separation is healthy.

-can afford to pay editors and cover artists and advertising venues - but the work must please the house's algorithms. Without that patronage you're either funding those elements out of your own pocket or doing that work yourself.
