Kudos to the kid that signed “Bruce Springsteen” on the inside pane of this second-hand Born to Run lp. Even though I know it’s not real, you made me wonder. You win, kid from the past.

Finally - Bob Dylan - Rough and Rowdy Ways (2020). No record has made me furrow my brow more. And the playing is immaculate in a grimy way. Top-flight shit, a master who is now toying with us

Mitski - The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We (2023). The mixing of this record is incredible- dynamism in the service of lyrical wit.

Ron Miles - Rainbow Sign (2020). Group improvisation in jazz taken seriously. It’s amazing to hear great players listen to each other and converse. Something rare since the 1960s- a truly transformative jazz record.

Lambchop -The Bible. A culmination of Wagner’s descent into an honest musical discussion with production methods in hip hop. Tossed off musings on everyday life as art.

Cocker and Gonzales - Room 29 (2017). Satire that implicates its makers, which might make it more self-loathing than satire.

Did the best of the twenty-first thing. I’m probably forgetting something. Also- I guess I’m not a cheery guy

This guy needs therapy, sure, but what he really needs is some damn humanities classes. What does he think knowledge is?

The untimely death of one of my 60 year old Webcore floor speakers has given birth to the ‘tridrophonic’ monster piece you see before you

As the parade of billionaires handing millions to the Trump inaugural continues, I think it’s time to reread Eric Vuillard’s The Order of the Day.

Most media outlets are doing a terrible job of this. It’s not really the job of climate scientists. Novelists, screenwriters, etc. - write on.

RIP Roy Haynes. An amazing career- started drumming with Lester Young and Charlie Parker in 1945 and recorded well into the 2010s. Propulsive, weird, great listener. This Andrew Hill record from 1964 gives perhaps the best taste of all this.
