I've never started a book idea without all the preproduction work I do. The outline, regardless of how detailed, is a map I stick to. Since I know where the story is going, I rarely have to stop &let it cook in my brain. It's more when I introduce a new place/character that I need more time to think

It was very much a slow process to build my stuck list because I had to learn what actually helped my brain figure problems out. & imo being a plotter has helped tons.I've heard discovery writers have written themselves into a corner or not known where they're going next. I've never had that problem

books or listened to her podcast I highly recommend it) anyway stuff on my stuck list is taking a shower, coloring, reading, and watching a show or movie I've watched before. All that gets my subconscious working on the problem. Once I figure out what it is I get back to writing.

I haven't gotten stuck in this WIP and since I'm a plotter I don't get stuck much. When I do, it's because I can't see the scene unfold in my mind so something is wrong.
