Yes! Thats why they call it “spectral energy“… not because its ghostly like a spectre, but because it’s a manifestation of the light spectrum.
There is also dark or “shadow” energy, which is functionally different, but can have variations from deep blacks to lavender-grays.

Charlie's favorite color is sky blue and half her wardrobe is blue, cuz then stuff is easy to matchy-match.

… so it takes, like, 10 chapters before we meet the core cast of gargoyles. 🤦‍♀️ I struggled mightily with pacing and worldbuilding, but spent a lot of time fixing it. It is what it is now and I like it even though it’s not your typical zippy/marketable YA fantasy… *sigh*😣)

Well, no, naturally Helena doesn’t find out for some time, but then, she doesn’t even know demons exist for a good 8 chapters. 😅

(Im very self-conscious about how long it takes for Helena to learn about gargoyles, Hell, and demons. I wanted the first part to be ooey and spooky.

Because, in the 5GC world, Im apparently going backwards one generation at a time as I construct a series of largly unrelated prequels, who only hint at the events and circumstances of the book written before (and taking place after) it.
