Hey Folks...You may start seeing social media sites and a website for Climate.us

If you see it, follow and share. It is legit and has some amazing, credible people behind it trying to plug leaks in the climate science world. Trust me on this one. More is coming....

A sweaty but fun endeavor battling the odds 😅

(the odds: extreme lightning every two hours, emergency campus evacuation, missing cables, flash flood warnings, covid, wild hogs/alligators, and 97 degree temps)...but the best crew to wake up at 4:30am with and make it happen!

After all these years I finally built a flux tower! Well, @sciencebails.bsky.social and
Geoff Schwaner did most of the work 😁 Salt marsh near Port Arthur, TX
Three scientists in field shirts and sunglasses in front of a short scaffold tower with white equipment boxes and sensors attached to it A short (around 10 m) scaffold tower with sensor equipment on it standing up in marsh vegetation with open water in front of it

🚨 New paper! 🚨

We modeled how 🌲 mgmt. strategies shape resistance to climate-driven biomass loss

-Legacy effects on structure persisted for 25 yrs
-Shelterwood harvest had ⬆️ resistance to loss
-Precip ⬇️ 2 yrs prior often preceded loss

A great piece; re. the economic impacts of science funding cuts:

"government-supported research from the NSF and other agencies has had a return on investment of 150% to 300% since 1950, meaning for every dollar U.S. taxpayers invested, they got back between $1.50 and $3"
paul-bierman.bsky.social
These cuts will have dramatic implications on the next generation through the loss of climate change research and science education.

The Trump administration is trying to reverse decades of American science greatness. I've written this piece showing why such cuts will only hurt our country.

Please amplify and help keep American science great.

NOAA’s chief economists estimate that the agency’s El Nino outlooks alone boost the U.S. agricultural economy by $300 million a year, and that corn growers save as much as $4 billion in fertilizer and cleanup costs based on optimizing to NOAA forecasts.

The potential loss of the world’s greatest climate forecasting tool has ramifications for long-term safety and security.

NOAA’s climate modeling systems help the Defense Department not just operate but anticipate and prepare for emerging threats.
