@thejeffbyrnes.com Not at me directly, just that some folks think Somerville shouldn't build new housing because it's just for transplants and newcomers. I take offense to it because I am someone who at one point was a newcomer (albeit long ago now), I believe strongly in welcoming more people […]

There was a post on TikTok recently talking about a new development promising $3k a month for two bedrooms, and you could tell immediately who in the comments was or was not from the area based on how they reacted to that price.

(FWIW $3k for a new apartment w/ 2 beds a 10 minute walk to […]

*My campaign does not accept donations from developers

Heaven forbid some of them are willing to pay to have such "luxuries" as
*checks notes* central air and washer/dryer in unit.

Why do I want the city to build more housing? Is it because I'm in the pocket of big developers*? Is it because I want to displace longtime residents?

No, it's because I very selfishly want my friends to be able to find places to live near me. I want friends who are a walk/bike/bus away and not […]

Denser housing and less cars in the road makes a city more affordable for everyone, especially the middle class.

Just learned about Flock cameras by way of this article: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/10/flocks-gunshot-detection-microphones-will-start-listening-human-voices

And also learned of https://www.deflock.me which shows that Tufts and Home Depot are operating a number of surveillance cameras […]

Sounds like there's a migration happening from Bluesky due to the CEO being transphobic. This seems like a good time to remind cis folks that your discomfort at the breaking of the illusion that gender is some fixed state is a *you* problem.

Also my trans & non-binary friends are rad as heck […]

Separately, there's a ballot question to extend the mayoral term to 4 years (but keep the city council term at 2 years).

I think this is horrendous and I hope that people don't vote for it. I'm lukewarm on the charter proposal overall, but the mayoral term extension is gross, and it would make […]

I'm tired of companies pushing for continuous exponential growth. Like what's wrong with building a nice product, being loyal to your users, and just vibing? It's like no company wants to be sustainable any more.

I know there's a lot more to be angry and upset about right now, but it would appear Strava is in the midst of imploding due to its bad business decisions

@cymplecy @footsteps ooh also excellent! I tried to do ice cream shops a few summers ago but did not finish the list.
scottsthoughts.better.boston.ap.brid.gy
@footsteps This is excellent! I was just biking home from lunch today and thinking I wanted to do a challenge where I bike to every coffee roaster in the #boston area to try them all. I will make that my #coffeeneuring goal!

Got hit up by the “I’m taking a class and we have to ask people: how do you find meaning in life?” cult again today. Do I just look like someone who doesn’t have meaning in life and would be very cult recruitable?

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Campaigning is simultaneously the most exhausting and most energizing thing I've ever done.

Boston bike people!

My sister's friend is looking for a used "around town" bike, maybe close to a road bike with a rack maybe more of a hybrid, but she's on a limited budget ($300). She's 4' 11". If anyone has a kid whose out grown something like this or something in your garage that maybe just […]

… but like if taskmaster came back to the US I would absolutely watch it.

Just… let the dropout team produce it, don’t give it to Netflix please.
scottsthoughts.better.boston.ap.brid.gy
Also, I am now convinced we don’t need taskmaster USA. We have game changer. It’s different enough to be its own delightful thing but fills a similar niche.
scottsthoughts.better.boston.ap.brid.gy
After cancelling Netflix (technical/policy reasons) and Hulu (political reasons) I am now subscribed to nebula and dropout to support smaller-ish creators. And… how have I not subscribed to dropout sooner? I literally know some of these people and so of course I love their content. It’s just all […]

Hey @cityofsomerville.bsky.social whats up with these gates that appeared at the new Ken Kelly park? The one blocking the ramp seems to make the park completely inaccessible to wheel chair users, and they block a good portion of the sidewalk when open.
A black metal gate at an entrance to a park is swung open into the sidewalk adjacent the park A black metal gate stands shut in front of an ada accessible ramp.
