Co-owner of this contemplative pup. #Alaska #dogs
A tan/white dog with a BIG underbite, sits on a bench that has a quote from John Muir: How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains.

i love my home—sheet’ká, lingit aani

there’s nowhere else i’d rather be, than right here with my family and community

this place is full of wonder, beauty, and the kind of magic that feeds your soul

pictures and words don’t do it justice. you just have to come and experience it for yourself

Went down to check the boat in between rain showers. I never get tired of the Alaskan sky. #Sitka #Alaska
Pic of the back of Sitka Sound, layers of clouds in varying shades of gray are stacked in the sky. Beams of pale gray light are coming down from the obscured sun. There are outcroppings of mountains going back into the bay, black, then dark gray, light gray, then white. The sun has made just a sliver of silver on the water in the very back of the pic.

That sums it up nicely! 😆

Batten down the hatches SE Alaska. We're in for it. Sitka may or may not escape the brunt of it. I've tied the grill to the deck and put deck chairs, loose pots, etc. in the shed. I still think I'll come home to chaos.
Weather alert showing SE Alaska, Sitka down past Hydaberg, we're all under a red, hurricane force wind warning for tomorrow.

Check out the prediction for October 1st. I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the Gulf!
Screen shot of "Windy", a weather prediction app. There is a large swirl of orange, hot pink, purple and blue all around the coast of the Gulf of Alaska. That means stormy weather throughout the gulf!

Yes he does! His favorite hike is up Harbor Mountain into the alpine. I have pics of him as king of the mountain. 😍

Oh, I didn't know they could only hire in state. Interesting! But a bummer for you.

Sweet Baby Jesus. I can't even.

I've managed to live in remote-ish areas: Kodiak, Tok (the least expensive since it was on the road system) and now Sitka. The island thing really screws with your budget.

Yes! I should feel no guilt. 'Tis time.

OMG - I would have torn my hair out. YES - the State is sooooo slow.

Yes, I didn't understand how expensive it is up here when I moved 10 years ago. And it doesn't matter where you live in AK, housing is a huge issue.

Ugh - I couldn't stand it! I lived in the SW for 30 years and almost died from the heat. Part of the reason I moved up north, for sure.

It's been so WET and cold here! I'm amazed we lasted as long as we did.

This is it. 9/24/25. "Turning on the furnace" day. #Sitka

🤣Karen's Karening.

😆Yeah, interesting phrasing. I'm assuming a minor consuming alcohol, but I did wonder if "major" consuming would equal a night in the pokey.

It's been such a weird summer here and now autumn is following suit.

Sitka 73F (22.8C) on Tuesday was a new record high temperature for September 16. This occurred long after sunset as offshore winds brought in very warm air from interior Baranof Island. This is the highest temp of 2025 and is the 4th time since 1948 that the annual max temp occurred in Sept. #akwx

You never know who might be sneaking around in Sitka. 😂
