Fowler is returning for 4, I doubt he would direct both, but I guess if Spielberg can direct Jurassic Park and Schindler's List at the same time, it’s possible.
Personally, I think it would be cool to give Tyson Hesse a chance to direct it.

That could be possible. The reason I'm leaning towards Shadow is because I feel they would have fully announced they're splitting 4 into two parts if it was the case, seems like it would be an easy way to generate hype.

You rarely see Smash specific versions of the characters anymore.
The Mario cast in Smash, from their designs to characterization, feel gritter than the source. I think maybe since the rise of third parties and the stakes that come with it came with more strict character supervision.
