I have also found the story that I trunked before using its most basic seed of plot for “The Drowned Man,” so we’ll see how that one reads 10,000 years after grad school.

“Good” is subjective, here; I was trying so hard to be Robin McKinley by way of Neil Gaiman (it was the late 90s/early 00s, don’t @ me); it’s kinda adorable. But you can see Current Laura in there, percolating. Yes, child, eventually you’ll have your own voice, & it’ll be very into blood & violence.

When we listened to the podcast, the firstborn came out of his room to get a soda. He stopped, head tilted, & asked “What the *fuck* are you listening to?”

He’d recognized some of the terminology & was ready to revoke his parents’ Internet privileges if we were becoming radicalized. I was so proud.

It’s very weird to be fascinated by something that you can SEE ruining people’s lives. I get a thrill of recognition as I’m screaming “FUCK YOU FUCKING FUCKS!” at the news.
