It is 2025 and the first key you press when Windows displaying the lock screen is not typed into the password box that is displayed in response. I curse for every redundant key stroke I have to perform.

Indeed. I work in healthcare, and it is such a strong phenomenon: when it comes to processing information, clinicians work via "unite and conquer," engineers work via divine and conquer. Chaoes ensues.
Excellent observation
From an engineering perspective, software wants to be decoupled. From a business value perspective, software wants to be deeply interconnected. That's the fundamental friction that software design, and Domain-Driven Design specifically, attempts to address.

If you'll read one thread today...
The Dickin Medal is the highest award that can be issued to animals in British military service. Bearing the words "We Also Serve" it has been awarded 75 times since its creation in 1943.

Only one cat has ever received the award.

This is the story of Able Seacat Simon, of HMS Amethyst. 🧵 1/25

That's a sufficiently large voter base for a party that'd become the government in many countries. Hold my beer Greens party.
I'm smart enough to be frustrated by the mediocre software engineers at work but not smart enough to get a job where software engineers are of good quality. I'm so unhappy.

There are two ways to write code that works but you have no idea how. Stochastically, using an LLM, or deterministically using an ML variant.

I say a lot of bad things about the javascript/css driven Web UI stacks, but then I go back and check out how Uno/Blazor/Avalonia is going, and you know what? JS won. It does not matter if we like it or not. For the Web UI, JS won.

I just have to ask: does anybody have the source for this?
It’s fine, he’s just got all your personal data. 💊💉

AI has also given politicians a golden, shiny can to put things in and kick down the road. Just say that all the holes in your policy and logic will be filled by AI.

Do you like vibe coding? Why not try seeing a "vibe treating" doctor next time you feel unwell?

Re all that being said about StackOverflow dying, yes LLMs played a part, but how the moderation was done and the culture that formed mainly around moderation, which then extended to comments and discourse in general also played a part. LLMs do not judge or patronise.

This is just ... beautiful. BatmanJuice? BeetleBat ? I'd love, love to see that movie made. What Carrey did in The Mask would be left in the dust (no rhyme intended...)

Re the so called Brexit reset (which is not, at all), the so called wins are not diluting Brexit as some suggest. They're just plastering over the massive harm it has done.
Using the e-gates? Give me back my freedom to live and work in any EU country, and I'll accept a 2 hr wait every time.

AI, Materials, and Fraud, Oh My! By Ben Shindel

The red flags we should have seen earlier for a too-good-to-be-true paper on AI tool adoption at a materials research firm.

Ok, now people are using AI to write their emails, which takes mere seconds for the LLM to spit out. I then have to spend an hour to respond to all the horseshite it produced. I'll have to start asking people not to do this.

Just saying 😉

Why do we have to pay for access to European Standards? Are they not funded by European taxpayers? Assume it is to ensure non European parties do not have access them for free, but isn't the point of standards to ensure as many parties as possible align/comply with them? Why hide them then?
