The model is lit by a projector showing the pattern. The background is washed out with flash, so that the pattern doesn't show there. It's tricky juggling the continuous lighting of the model with the flash exposure of the background.

Ultimately, it’s going to have to come down to trust in the artist, and their own statements about their technique. Just as some artists tell us they work with film, or uncropped images, and we have to make our own call on it.

I’m struggling, too, with how to view this kind of content from others. I know where my own line in the sand is. Roughly speaking, I’m using assistive AI, but not generative. I’ve played around with the generative stuff, and it makes me feel icky- like I’m cheating myself and the viewer.
