The original plan for the series was it was to be packed with a lot of satirical fan service and lucky perv situations for Shinji but then they realised it was working against the story they wanted to tell & made the fan service darker. The sarin gas attack in Tokyo also changed the plot up too.

Can't wait for it to die on its way back to its home planet.
