try.shader-slang.org might suffice if syntax is what you're after? It's Slang rather than HLSL, but Slang's syntax is HLSL-flavored.

It's one of the scenes I remember best from Huck Finn, because it seemed really counterintuitive to me as a skirt-wearer!

That tidbit is stolen from Huckleberry Finn, so as far as I'm aware it was written by Mark Twain, and you are therefore correct.

The Introduction to Slang lab at #SIGGRAPH2025 is standing room only-- but if you're not able to get in, you can still take a look at the materials, including our interactive examples, linked from our SIGGRAPH landing page: shader-slang.org/landing/sigg...

Tired: AI is untrustworthy because it can't figure out how many B's are in "blueberry"

Wired: AI is untrustworthy because it does not appreciate my darkly whimsical sartorial sense.
A Google Gemini prompt and response reading:

User: I am attending SIGGRAPH next week for professional reasons. I will be packing a button-down sleeveless shirt printed with Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights. Should I wear this shirt:

A. When assisting with a computer lab
B. When presenting at a Fast Forward session
C. When leading a Birds of a Feather session
D. When meeting with professional associates
E. All of the above

Gemini: None of the above. You should not wear a shirt printed with Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights at SIGGRAPH, regardless of the setting.

I'm also going to stick my head into some of the interesting stuff going on with Gaussian splatting standards as much as I can (as an attendee, not a speaker).

If you want to track me down and pick my brain about Slang, Gaussian splatting, neural shading, or standardization, give me a ping! (6/6)

An Introduction to Neural Shading

Slang will feature heavily in this course that covers neural shading, all the way from fundamentals to the nitty-gritty of hardware acceleration and deployment. (4/6)

BEHOLD MY DERPY LIL SON! (He's old enough to drink.)
A very rudimentary snowman, rendered with OpenGL 1.0, on a transparent red block, against a background of a densely repeating set of stones.

Ah, looks like I'm having trouble with the "featured" label in our content management software. Thank you for the heads up! I'll fix that ASAP.

Been a little while since the last one, but I'm back with installment number three in my neural graphics intro series. This one covers using wave intrinsics to get a speed boost-- a traditional compute technique that's just as useful in the neutral graphics space.
