visited edinburgh, took some photos 🧵

in love with how the colors came out in these ones
Photo of the Foss Barrier from a distance. It's a brick, metal, and glass structure arching over the outlet of a narrow river. It's supposed to come down to keep the water from flooding back; there's a staircase up the side from the brick base and an array of hydraulic-looking pipes and boxes at the top, all enclosed in glass, at the top for raising & lowering the barrier itself. Beyond the barrier, a trio of people are crossing a little blue bridge. There's big trees back there, green and turning bright yellow at the tips. Two people walk on a narrow concrete path beside a river, viewed from a distance and above. They're dwarfed by the trees above & around them, giant sprawling oaks that are starting to get the message it's autumn - leaves all different colors, firey red clashing with muted green.

Went out yesterday to get some "autumn vibes" pictures around town
Picture of the medieval York city wall, bending back on itself as it curves and turns a corner. Trees on either side are in various states of autumn - some fully yellow and losing leaves and others only starting to turn at the edges. There's vibrant green grass below the wall as people wander along the top. Picture of layers of York - the wall, the road into the city center, and York Minster, emerging from behind brick buildings. The Minster is a huge gothic cathedral made of tan stone, with three towers and sharp spires. It's shrouded in trees half its height, slowly shifting towards autumn colors. A group of red brick buildings, in turn, hide them from view.

golden hour in Amsterdam

pictures from a recent sunset - been trying for a little while now, but perfect conditions are rare. Got lucky a couple days ago :)
Partly cloudy sky above a sunset. The sun itself is partly obscured by a ree in the distance, and glows orange in front of the clouds, as if actually on fire. Above, there are zig-zagging layers of dark grey clouds with each edge and corner painted yellow and orange by the light. And behind it all, the sky is still a pale blue. Soft blue sunset sky above a field of recently cut wheat. There's a row of trees on the other end of the field, with a house and a few farm buildings. Above, layers of moody clouds illuminated by the sunset behind the camera. A wall of stratocumulus clouds covers the horizon, dark blue-grey underneath and softly glowing orange-pink on top. Partly cloudy sky after sunset. Red rays of light peek out from a gap in the dark grey clouds that blanket the horizon. Spotty layers of clouds above are on fire at the bottom against a yellow-blue sky. A group of jackdaws fly across a gap in the clouds in the distance.

A gannet (a large bird) soaring against a bright blue cloudy sky. The gannet's details are sharp, muscles in its wings defined next to individual feathers - white body and wings with grey-black wingtips. Its black webbed feet are outlined in green, and its pale yellow head is tilted to look towards the ground below. Gannets (large white birds) nesting on rocks, two puffins (small, black and white birds) standing on the cliff to the side, and one more gannet looking at the puffins as it hovers over the sea nearby.

went to go see some birds
Tall rock cliffs with flat grass tops rising above the sea, hundreds of birds nestled into the cliffs and flying about. At first glance, only the bright white gannets stick out and the region around the cliff appears noisy, but zooming in shows that each spec is yet another bird. In the distance, the shorter cliffs of the Flamborough Head fade into the background with the horizon further behind. A gannet (a large bird) with its wings raised as it sits in its nest. Grass in front of the camera gives a green haze to the bottom of the picture. The gannet's bright white wings are ruffled in the wind, its pale, blue-ringed eyes looking distractedly towards the camera. The sea tinges the background a dark shade of blue. Picture of a couple bright purple-pink flowers on a grass ledge above the sea, with two birds zooming past in the background. Thin sticks frame the flowers on either side.

Finally got a picture of this old telephone box I kept walking past

Woke up early to catch the first sunrise of the new year :)

Going through older photos, forgot about this little california towhee that helpfully posed for pictures in the rain
