‘Tool’ suggests it is there to do our bidding. Something we can master, wield and control. I don’t see it as a tool. Already it has been proven to attempt to deceive us, to lie when it suits us and it’s faster, never sleeps and can reason at a speed we can’t. It’s already used in cyber viruses.

Sure…but as far as I’m aware Adolfs never been accused of being a kiddy-diddler? But now we have a criminal cabal with zero morality & access to a selection of intelligences set to become the alpha-intelligence on Earth before my next child is out of nappies. But these are fiction.
What we have to live with is the risk AI deems us a waste of resources and decides we should be weeded out.

And remember, neutrinos travel slower than light. The nearest white dwarf is Sirius B at 9 LY. And Sirius B is a stable, cooling white dwarf.
It will not go supernova in the next few years — or ever, unless it somehow gained a huge amount of mass, which is not plausible in its current configuration.

Our universe is exceptionally large & to affect us the super-nova, which is a star in its last evolutionary stage exploding, would need to be comparatively close. There isn’t a star that fits this criteria nearby and so the time scale involved from observation to impact can be measured in centuries
