I first read this book 30 years ago, and yeah, it's still relevant.

Excerpt from Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire - The oppressor is solidary with the oppressed only when he stops regarding the oppressed as an abstract category and sees them as persons who have been unjustly dealt with, deprived of their voice, cheated in the sale of their labor—when he stops making pious, sentimental, and individualistic gestures and risks an act of love. True solidarity is found only in the plenitude of this act of love, in its existentiality, in its praxis. To affirm that men and women are persons and as persons should be free, and yet to do nothing tangible to make this affirmation a reality, is a farce. (Location 126)

Moved by the music and resilience of the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra, who played their national anthem - while standing - as their last song. Conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson’s only words in English were, “The fight for the liberty of Ukraine is the fight for a democratic world.”

Colder than predicted weather and a late finish meant a risky hike down so hitched down to meet a heroic uber driver to get back to camp. Thinking that TDF fans are the best fans. Also 🙏 for kindness of strangers, and this hitchhike sunset view.
