I’ve been a journalist for more than 40 years. I’m comfortable with the language I used and the structure of the story, which made perfectly clear what the science shows.

Please read the whole story In context. As you know, journalists are humans. We make carefully considered judgments. We reconcile competing beliefs and fact check them. We do it on deadline. We do work that is unseen & interview experts who never get quoted. All in 24 hours. This is not BS.

My original story used the words "scientific orthodoxy." Upon reconsideration, I have changed it to "scientific consensus." It is more precise and reflects my intent.
