Hmm. RM, Suga, Tori Amos, Halsey (and in my youth I thought Simon LeBon was the deepest, most profound lyricist ever)
For sheer emotional impact, my favorite is Hozier. He packs so much punch into simple phrasing. “Butchered Tongue” gets me every single time.
I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.
