i make & study moving images, the pervert’s medium 🎭🩸🎪 📹 they/them.📍Montréal & Chicago. into horror & experimental film. director of ➡️ https://quietinthehouse.com
i lived in chicago for 20 years, and it turns out one result of doing that is you end up knowing a *lot* of people who grew up in minnesota / wisconsin / michigan

La vie nouvelle (2002) low key made me think of both Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire at times, like there’s some weird gross alleyway somewhere that connects them

that’s all so interesting, and i hope it doesn’t distress you too much! i do think the reason it would impact me negatively not to be able to visualize as intensely as i do is bc i’m a filmmaker, but i surely wouldn’t have chosen that path if i wasn’t constantly generating moving images in my head?

Sombre is, in my opinion, a better film than La vie nouvelle for a few different reasons, but watching the latter has confirmed for me that my fixation on Sombre is not the result of a fluke in Grandrieux’s filmography and i in fact need to see everything he’s ever made

i’m glad it was so effective for you, and that’s fascinating that it worked well but through a pretty different process experience

ah, i was curious because visualizing things feels to me sort of like… deliberately lucid dreaming while awake and with my eyes open, if that makes any sense? they feel like almost the same process, at least for me personally, although admittedly with less detail in visualizing

apologies if this is annoying question, but if you don’t visualize things when you are thinking of them, do you dream? or if you are remembering something you have actually seen, do you like… see it in your head?
i’ve struggled to understand this experience since learning about it

he’s intimidating so i get it! but also deeply chicago

and he’s very tall with a comportment that makes him seem even taller somehow? actually a very funny guy though, with a particular kind of understated (maybe that’s not the word i want) sense of humor

every time i’m next to a horse (not a frequent occurrence) i’m like… somehow i both *know* that horses are significantly bigger than me and am surprised by the physical experience every time???

i clearly need to know what band these posts are about because if i don't already listen to them, i need to fix that immediately

if i were to curate a small selection of books in an attempt to convey some of the feeling of Chicago (no one book ever could!), Algren’s 1951 City on the Make would 10000% be on it, what an incredible text

sending you a good thought ❤️ it definitely wasn’t until my… god i don’t know, maybe 10th? ER visit for migraines that anyone did a ct scan, and fwiw i think that was because i had mentioned that i was also very dizzy that time?

ime fitted sheets that go on the mattress wear out faster than top sheets since they see more action, so whenever i move i end up tossing an older fitted sheet—but for some reason i always hang on to the now lone flat sheet, which i then never use??
