⚓ On World Maritime Day we celebrate the men whose lives were tied to the sea.

In 1987 Side commissioned Mik Critchlow, who joined the Merchant Navy at 15, to create Seafarers. His photographs honour their work, families and solidarity.

🚢 In Sept 1909 RMS Mauretania, built at Swan Hunter in Wallsend, North Tyneside, won the Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing at 26.06 knots, a record she held 20+ years.
