Its absurd to me that these were all taken on the same “outing” this year. This trip took me through NE->SD->NE->KS->NM->AZ->UT->NM->SK 🇨🇦->ND->SD->NE->SD->KS->CO->NE->CO->home. 2024 was truly the year of “Never Stop Chasing.”

New Mexico. A powerful bolt of lightning strikes the distant hillside with 3 separate branches off the main channel. The clouds and parts of the hill are illuminated by the bolt. The left part of the sky is obscured by rain. In the foreground grassy hills overrun by scrubby brush and plants fill the frame. At bottom right you see the corner of a road and the streaks of headlights as they moved toward the camera while the shutter was open. Utah. The monsoon brings a powerful thunderstorm into the Needles district of Canyonlands NP. A huge lightning bolt curves through the air and strikes a rock feature to the right of frame illuminating the landscape below and the rain and clouds above. Lots of red rock terrain features are visible in the distance, steppes and buttes, and then more obscured by rain. In the foreground the shadows of all the desert grasses and brush are cast under the lightning. Saskatchewan. The final light of daytime illuminates the back and cloud layers of a sculpted supercell, many of its features are laminar and it has the appearance of stacked plates. The underside of the storm is ragged and dark, with the anvil and distant rain in shadow. Behind the storm infracloud lightning illuminates part of the rain and clouds and hues it a deep purple. A sliver of the foreground is visible showing farm lands, trees a road going straight into the storm and a few farm structures off to the right. Nebraska. Windblown grasses and brush cover the terrain of the Sandhills as they roll through the foreground. Behind and above the hill to the left a dark brown tornado rages. The tornado is slightly obscured by rain and debris, the clouds above and around it are ragged, gray, and violently rotating. The frame gradually gets brighter from left to right and the left half of a rainbow arcs into the frame and lands just to the right of the tornado.
