People from Western Mass get big mad if you tell them they live in a pretty compact metro area of 700,000 and not a bucolic wilderness.

Rural New England and a lot of Upstate NY will mostly be okay because they’re not that rural.

Not at all uncommon to hit that cap in VHCOL metros though.

Medicare and Social Security are payroll taxes.
December 1, 2025 at 4:24 AM
I’m aware but you also have payroll taxes. It’s not 50% but it’s not nowhere near 50% either.

Why would anyone give Calla Walsh this much attention if they didn’t want Calla Walsh to get attention?

Most likely they just got into tech relatively late, but the framing is still weird.

Not sure where this person was living (Zurich?) but in NYC or Cali take home after taxes and 401k would be closer to $200k than $250k and rent likely another $50k. Still a lot of money, but the bigger piece for this person would be the RSU appreciation than their W2 number.

lol W2s at Google absolutely pay taxes. You’re talking about business owners and 1099s.

My theory on this is that most people don’t imagine that their city hasn’t always been the way it is now. If you think the current state is a static state you’re less likely to be open to visionary ideas than if you realize your city has always been in flux.

I love that it’s this close when she’s so wildly inappropriate for the district. We’re in Doug Jones territory without the rampant pedophilia.

It’s not so much about retirement as it doesn’t take much scrimping and saving to get to $1.5M by 37 on a Google comp package.
December 1, 2025 at 12:17 AM
Not sure I understand what impact this would have. Both are very expensive locations.
November 30, 2025 at 11:40 PM
It’s not $390k take home lol.
November 30, 2025 at 11:36 PM
In California they would I think?
November 30, 2025 at 11:36 PM
Am I the only one who finds that to be a not particularly impressive savings number for a 37-year-old Google employee?

I would suggest warming the oil slightly for more even distribution.

Somehow I feel like single-party authoritarianism isn’t the panacea for elite accountability that some are making it out to be.

Supersoakers are still around yeah?

A member of the Cherokee nation having beef with the team from Atlanta? Well by golly.
November 30, 2025 at 3:40 AM
It looks like everyone did, from the comments.

What about the extra fun “we should fix the Constitution” as if a constitutional convention is a) easy and b) results in your desired outcomes?
