In 1895, in the remote West Kootenays of British Columbia, a narrow gauge railway was built to reach the richest silver mines in the world. By 1910 rampant development destroyed almost everything, a story still very relevant today. Click pics, read ALTs.

An important The National Interest article on how Georgian Dream has turned Georgia into a key sanctions-evasion corridor fueling Russia’s war economy, while aligning with Moscow, Beijing & Tehran and escalating domestic repression.

In the 1930's an "America First Committee" insisted the United States could stay safe by refusing entanglements abroad.

"The Spanish Civil War (1936–39) was one of the ways the catastrophe of WW2 learned how to happen. Ukraine is one reason the rhyme feels sharp."

A golden prize for Trump that completely mocks any comprehension of the word, although the design seems a clever troll. Perhaps it's now time to boycott FIFA regardless.
This design appears to be commemorating a global zombie apocalypse.

Trump's America includes Sheriffs hand-cuffing 6-year olds. In no way is this necessary or moral.
What in the actual fuck? The United States of America is beyond, and I mean BEYOND, REPULSIVE. And you all think this will get you some sort of respect? Like fuck. Savages, abusers, and weak people to allow this to continue. SHAME ON YOU ALL. AND I MEAN ALL

If Trump wants to charge fees to NATO countries for future support, then it is reasonable for NATO countries to recover expenses from supporting America during and after 9/11. Trump has no comprehension of what an alliance is, because he only comprehends his own benefit.

Also a good reminder that promoting unqualified and inexperienced political hacks to important and critical positions of authority is not going to work out well.
Both incidents remind us: when leaders abandon restraint, atrocities follow. From Vietnam to the Caribbean, the lesson is clear — unchecked orders to “kill everybody” lead to moral collapse. The past is prologue.

Eventually, the bill comes due.

A very good read on why any recognition of Crimea, or other portions of Ukraine, as a russian territory is a very terrible idea.

It would mark abandoning the very idea of international law, a concept very painfully created by WW2 that has served the world very well for 80 years.
Why Trump is ready to recognize the occupation of Crimea and part of Ukraine – and what it threatens the world

Putin abandoned the norms of International Law, bought at huge cost in WW2, a long time ago. Putin underlined this when he invaded Ukraine in 2014 and again in 2022.

Putin, and now sycophant Trump, are happy to make use of those norms in theatrical actions and negotiations to aid their own ends.
Duckworth: "It is a war crime. It's illegal. No matter how you put it, it's all illegal. I've been shot down behind enemy lines. Under the laws of war, you are supposed to help render aid to that individual ... you're not allowed to go back in and kill them."

He explores the possible land war in Venezuela, and "self-terrorism", as new justifications to tear down democratic rights and freedoms.
