The 150-year-old Sycamore Gap tree, growing on Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. After the tree was criminally felled in 2023, the National Trust grew 49 saplings from its seeds, one for each foot of the tree’s original height.https://tinyurl.com/28da35cg

Was just talking to a guy who complained regulations were preventing him from getting a deer-stalking permit. When I asked why he wanted to kill deer, he said " food, culling and sport" - had to walk away before I called him a cunt 🤬
Fucking barbarians.

Yes, properly insane stuff.
The alt text on Pic 4 reminds me of one of my fave Goth bands, Sex Gong Children ( I think that's right 😉 )
Also love the parrot guy...

1. Common People - Pulp

It was always going to be this one, a surging tidal wave of a song that builds and builds, speeds up and up, witty and angry and endlessly singalong-able, with the most energising, er, climax. For me, one of the greatest pop culture moments of the '90s 🎵💜 #LovePulp

2. Don't Look Back In Anger - Oasis

Bollocks to the music snobs: the feeling, the pathos, the working class togetherness, the soaring melodies and the sheer cockiness of Oasis's best songs render all the sniping irrelevant. Live forever 💙

3. Ray Of Light - Madonna

Having got that tedious Evita stuff out of her system, Madonna returned to her spiritual home - the dancefloor 💃⚡
With producer du jour William Orbit in tow (in her orbit?) Madge created a dance classic which transcends its era and still sounds incredible today 🎵

4. Children - EMF

"Children, I know / You deserve more than this world could ever give"

I had to include hometown heroes EMF in this challenge, and this has long been my favourite of their back catalogue.

"The good, the bad, the average and unique"

A poignant anthem for misfits and losers everywhere from one of the most underrated bands of their era.

7. Holes - Mercury Rev

"Holes, dug by little moles / Angry, jealous spies / Got telephones for eyes"

Jonathan Donahue's fragile, high-register voice leads us into the strange, uncertain world of the Rev, recalling ( for me at least ) the surrealism of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol 🎵
