I don't know what it'll take to really see mass mobilization on a scale that will actually change things, but several thousand chronically online activists (like me) buying that TV next Wednesday instead of today isn't going to move the needle.

Marx had it wrong. Religion isn't the only opiate of the masses. Capitalism itself is an opiate. Consumerism. As long as I can buy the thing that allows me to ignore the alienation and fundamental meaninglessness and powerlessness of life in capitalism, then I'm happy. Fuck it. Whatever.

I know the whole frog in a boiling pot metaphor is nonsense, but it do be like that sometimes. As long as they can still go to work, watch their sports, and buy their groceries, most Americans just don't care that they're living under fascism, as long as it doesn't seem to be happening to them.

I just cannot imagine making my whole personality hating people over things that literally do not affect me.
