This is part of the reason why I have suspended all travel to the United States indefinitely. A Swiss teacher wanted to celebrate her birthday in New York with friends but instead was detained, shackled, and sent off to a detention center in New Jersey.

No thanks!

If you are visiting the United States, having a negative view of Trump is enough to get you denied entry.
If this was coming out of Russia or China, we would deplore such an authoritarian attack on freedom of expression.
"I learned with concern that a French researcher" on assignment for the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) "who was traveling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled ," said the Minister of Higher Education and Research, Philippe Baptiste, in a statement sent to Agence France-Presse (AFP). "This measure was apparently taken by the American authorities because the researcher's phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration's research policy ," he added

Productive day of R coding today.

Started with model 90% complete.

Finished with model 50% complete.

Then you go back on later and its like "here's three new things that are vaguely relevant now stop scrolling and get back to work"

Not sure if its a feature, a bug, or just because I don't follow enough people yet but my favourite thing about this site is that occasionally you reach the end of it.

Like you have the discover tab to find out everything that's going on in the world, get annoyed and then it just runs out

I think for some people that experience of living in another country would still be really valuable. But I guess I just wanted to let people who can't do that kind of working know that there is another way of doing it. Anyway, now I'm off to do bedtime duty for the next week!

This is particularly true now we are all much more connected online. We have arranged monthly meetings to progress the work in the meantime and have well laid out plans which will help keep momentum 5/n

It obviously helps being based in Europe in that it's easy to travel quickly between countries and do these short visits. But I wanted to kind of let people know that there is this alternative way of doing visits that does feel like it will work 4/n

Now I can go away and start working on a joint project (in collaboration with a PhD student from the centre) before coming back next year to check in and push the project along. 3/n

I'm just finishing my first visit of 3 days to the health economics group at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and feel like this is going to work really well. We have had quite an intense few days of presentations and meetings but we've set things up well for working in the future 2/n

As part of PhDs and fellowships it's seen as a good thing to go on research visits. When I was writing my fellowship application I wanted to work this in but as a parent with young kids it's difficult to spend a big chunk of time abroad. So I'm trying to do more frequent short visits instead 1/n
