My garden is on the left, my neighbour's is on the right. His was, until earlier this year, a lawn. His porch flooded last weekend for the first time ever. Mine didn't.

I couldn't let the piece on litter and dog walking pass without mentioning that my dog Bertie won a BBC Making a Difference award this year for picking up plastic bottles when we go running together. He's picked up more than 10,000, which are all now in the recycling.

Two days ago I lost my Spaniel Freddie after almost 17 years of bringing me unconditional love and joy. We were barely apart for a single day in all that time and we had so much fun along the way. I don't regret one day of it, but boy it hurts now he's gone.

Can't decide if 14 is Bud Powell for Parisian Thoroughfare or Oscar Peterson for his Paris Live album. On balance, probably the former, but you pays your francs and you takes your choice.

Football kits were better in the 70s though, as 8-year-old me is demonstrating here.

@remembrancewatch.bsky.social Digital display signs on the ring road in Coventry have been alternating between directions and respect for the past few days. Lest we forget, to exit at the next junction.

Did he manage it in more or fewer takes than Dan Wootton?

At the time, The Specials. Now, Joy Division. But that's possibly because I went to see Peter Hook play last night.

I know this isn't a proper @quietriotpod.bsky.social "grin and share it" but a shadow minister forgetting to ask a question has certainly made me grin, so I'm sharing it. And the @mrkennycampbell.bsky.social headline puns write themselves: "Could Cartlidge be the Conservatives' achilles heel?" etc.

I found my 1983 City shirt in a cardboard box in my loft last year, which had been in there since I left home in '86, despite the box making about three house moves. I got Stuart Pearce, who made his professional debut in that team, to sign it.

My mate has been a driver for 40 years and retired at the weekend. In his time, he's dealt with situations including violence on trains, drunks trying to get into his cab, obstructions on tracks, people jumping onto lines, accidents at level crossings etc. He's earned every penny of his salary.

Enjoyed the horror discussion, can I wave a flag for ghost rather than horror stories, the kind of unsettling, creepy tales that slowly crank up the dread and disturb your peace of mind. The M.R James adaptations by Lawrence Gordon Clark, like 'Lost Hearts" and "Warning to the Curious" are classics.
