the way I laughed sitting in line this morning at the drive thru, I'm just thankful there was no one around me

like, there was a lot of bad across the team, but this is one of the most incredible Controller Disconnected sequences you'll ever see.
Ekholm has an awful turnover, sure, but Savoie (#22) literally does not take a stride from the opposing blue line to his own hash marks. 80 feet of gliding.

took a spin through @allthreezones.bsky.social tracking data to see how teams have changed their offensive approach from last year. here are each team's change in rush offence/60 and cycle+forecheck offence/60 at 5v5 compared to last year:

man alive this backhand alley-oop from AJ Greer is absolutely preposterous
November 25, 2025 at 12:34 PM
4) Hamonic with just a brutal giveaway that leaves Talbot out to dry
November 25, 2025 at 12:17 PM
3) two Devils in front, two Red Wings with them, and nary a stick tie-up to be seen
November 25, 2025 at 12:16 PM
2) Chiarot not only doesn't cover anyone, but he sets up a perfect screen on Talbot (???) for Hischier's goal
November 25, 2025 at 12:15 PM
maybe Detroit should have won the game last night anyway, but man alive these goals against are something else
1) for some reason, both Compher and Hamonic peel off to leave Meier alone in front (???) who tips in the point shot

not sure why but this slide from Emil Andrae got a real good chuckle out of me

I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this in the last couple weeks, but it’s a lot

not much point production for Landeskog yet, but after a bit of a slow start, his cumulative on-ice xG differential at 5v5 has just been skyrocketing (yellow line is 3-game rolling average)
November 24, 2025 at 12:41 PM
same game: completely wild that Meier cross-checks Sanheim from behind into the boards about 10 feet from the ref, there's no call, goal about 10 seconds later
November 23, 2025 at 12:57 PM
man this is a hell of a play from Couturier:
1) rolls off Hamilton
2) shields from Brown
3) hits Brink perfectly in stride

@nmercad.bsky.social I have a goalie question, if you don't mind me asking. Sometimes I see goalies do this, where they basically overlap their pad with their glove, and to me that seems very suboptimal because that part of the net is already covered. Is this just a natural reaction thing?

"we're gonna put Connor Dewar with Crosby and Rust"
"hah, ok, sure"
*checks shiftchart*

I know this is technically a 'bad' shot to take, but I really do love when guys are like 55 feet from the net and are like "whatever, it's clap time"
November 22, 2025 at 11:52 AM
I would say that the correct time for a full line change is not when the opposition is reloading with the puck in the neutral zone and crossing the red line, but maybe I'm old-fashioned.

Looking for a historical comp by EV goal differential per 60 minutes, EV expected goals-for/against differential per 60 minutes, 5v5 points/60, 5v5 shots required per expected goal, and hits/60 among wingers aged 21-23 years old. It's almost too on-the-nose

This is an interesting pair: of the 281 forwards with at least 200 minutes at 5v5 this year, only two have positive double-digits by relative shot attempt share, relative expected goal share, and relative goal share

so I looked at the expected goal-for and goal-for driving from the defencemen in 2024-25 compared to 2025-26 using @evolving-hockey.com's model and every single defenceman has seen a drop in expected goal driving and all but Walman have seen a drop in goal driving
