And do not call the tortoise unworthy because she is not something else. - Walt Whitman
I read a lot. Then I blog about it so I don't forget.

So many people have a score of 19 because of AOL. I'm surprised. At one time, AOL was pretty much the entrance ramp to online life. Or maybe I just thought it was.

Oh, well, I never owned one either, but slept on several in various hotels/motels. With one exception, they weren't all they were cracked up to be.;)

Some of these things, I had for an embarrassingly long time - I had a VCR until the local electronics repair shop refused to fix it any more. Never had a waterbed, but slept on several in motels/hotels. I still have checkbook, dictionaries (duh, several), and use cursive ever day.

Nice to see you, it's been quite a while - hope you're doing well!

I loved this book! It's full of wordplay - letters written in a land that's losing letters every day - but it also has a lot to say about authority and tradition. And an unexpected twist!

On Monday, July 17, a most intriguing thing took place: one of the tiles from the top of the cenotaph at town center came loose and fell to the ground, shattering into a good many pieces. A young g…

There are about 20 videos on Youtube by 'science communicators' explaining this because it's so strange. Here's one, but there are others if you search something like - mirrors reverse up down.

I'm guessing the hot dog is a stand-in for chorizo?
However, i've now discovered there is a Spanish Hot Dog, but it's a recipe from the US Midwest, not Spain - basically a sloppy joe piled on a hot dog.

The Spanish Hot Dog: The Ohio and Indiana Post-War Treat
The other day I was talking with a coworker about the Spot Restaurant in Sidney, Ohio. I was planning a trip up that way to visit our trade show company, and said I had heard of the S…

I've been making notes for my eventual wrap-up, and one of them is how glad I am that you've included so much humor! Even the most angst-ridden stories so far have had chuckles in them.

Herodotus is... not always a reliable historian. For instance, there are no giant man-eating ants guarding the gold in India. ;) It's a surprisingly fun read, esp. early books.
Close Reading is wonderful - the Intro is available online

I'm almost embarrassed to admit I'm STILL on the same 2 books - Best American Short Stories 2025, & Herodotus - but now I've added a third: Sinykin/Winant's Close Reading for the 21st Century. Just on the introduction, it's great, will help a lot with blogging stories and books going forward!

I've just read about half the Introduction and I can already see ideas that are going to help me SO MUCH. No, I'm not a scholar or teacher, just an obscure old lady blogging what I read for my own benefit, but I keep trying to get better at it and this is gold.
