Snark (And Occasionally Bourbon)

He/him.
Writer of the fiction and TTRPG varieties.
Silly goose prone to making dad jokes.
Forever GM by choice.
Book Dragon.
Last bit of 3 lore while I’m easing into my morning and he’s screeching through an empty parchment paper tube.

He likes directing attention at things but isn’t verbal enough to do so with precision. “Hey! Wook!” *gestures vaguely*

Anyway, my kids are pretty rad.

It’s how he says it that kills me. It isn’t just “gee whiz.”

It’s “GEEEEEEEE whiz” with a hell of an emphasis and wind up on that first syllable.

This is the same child who likes to pretend he’s asleep with his eyes open by fake snoring and then shouting “wake up” so…quite a journey ahead.

I’m not saying immediately pick up a pitchfork or torch if someone levels criticism at a creator you like, but instead consider what that criticism is, consider its impact, and be mindful and open to listening.

But also seriously, please stop elevating people into pedestals. It never ends well.

And yes, this is back to Hazbin Hotel, because it’s obviously doing something right. It’s a decent show with no shortage of flaws (and a creator whose talent at creating is only rivaled by how adept she is at pissing people off). But the whole “I can draw it/do it better mindset” I’m seeing is ass.

Related: please learn the difference between “this is how I would’ve designed this character” and “I made this character from an IP I hate better because my vision is obviously the right one.”

Let me know once you’ve got a multi-season series on a major platform.

Gotta teach them Forged in the Dark games. Specifically Scum and Villainy. Then marvel at the havoc you’ve unleashed as squirrels in little woodland spaceships get into heated acorn blaster battles.

I get that Wicked set us up for a jovial fun buddy adventure through Oz (if you overlook the oppressive evil shit the Wizard is up to and the far-reaching impact of that evil shit), but I’m still shocked so many people are gasping over For Good being so different in tone.

It’s a lot of people shocked around the origins of Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Tinman, and also were apparently not prepared for there to be sex.

Which, by the way, if you’ve not read the book but are experiencing Wicked for the first time from the movie you’re in for a surprise I suspect.
