FWIW I got assigned this as reading during an upper level undergrad course which had a similar thesis, so at least not entirely a hot take www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Reconsidering 1911: Lessons of a sudden revolution
The year 1911 launched China on a century of revolution and ended one of the most successful dynasties in Chinese history, the Qing. The New Policy reforms of the late Qing were remarkably successf...

Ha! To be clear I mean lines on the page. I get to around 道沖而用之或不盈。淵兮似萬物之宗。before it becomes too tempting to just read the translation. At this point it's been too many years since college for me to make it even that far.

I've read through the first 50 lines of the 道德经 about 5 times and haven't been able to make it any farther personally. I'm a hobbyist not a professional though. Makes for good party stories though since no one there is going to call you out on it being an inch deep.

Working up the energy to read classical Chinese takes multiple attempts alright?

The existence of an "automation tab" really says a lot

Being able to fully automate large portions of the game is going to be a great learning tool. It still feels quite complicated when making heavy use of it though lol

On a more serious note, @bretdevereaux.bsky.social has some very good articles about it from a historian's perspective which are great reads acoup.blog/2021/04/30/c...

Being performative is when you like things that taste good I see

I refuse to believe you actually read their comment that way. You are either trolling very badly or a complete moron. Both good enough reasons for a ban IMO.

I’m beginning to believe you got banned for simply being a tremendous asshole. Jules said nothing of the sort. Reread the conversation.

We've been through this before, yes, but the petite bourgeoisie were on the whole wrong. Marx had to write a whole chapter of Capital about why they were wrong. www.marxists.org/archive/marx...

Removing someone's access without sending them a "Your access will be removed in 14/7/2/1 days" email on at least 2 occasions including the day before is bad practice too IMO. Sorry you're dealing with this.

When I worked in University IT we always waited 6 months to a year after departure to deactivate emails for exactly this reason. The only times we immediately deactivated an email is if someone was fired for cause and they were a threat to the university still having it.

It gets better when you realize the quote is fake. Lao Tzu never said that.

hey quick question: why did you grant anonymity to a source whose identity is already published and easily accessible? was it because he's an avowed eugenicist and white supremacist? or simply because you're a moron?

At some point Johnson will change his vote to no and end the vote, which will allow him to bring it up again tomorrow. Doesn’t solve any of his problems though, and I’m honestly pretty surprised the ghouls in the freedom caucus haven’t caved.

I never understood why I ate so much rotisserie chicken growing up. Now that I'm an adult, It makes so much sense why my parents found it a very appealing option for feeding 4 children.
