THE GOAT
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords was released 21 years ago today.

It was @obsidian.net very first game, made in just over a year, and what a game it was! Even if we had to wait for a fan mod to get the full adventure, it remains one of my favorite SW games.

ICYMI: I wrote an 8000 word piece about my complicated feelings surrounding this iteration of Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 and I think it's worth your time, especially if you care about the foundational history of tabletop role-playing games and the quality of RPGs writ large.
Earlier this week, the first Bloodlines turned 21 and I’ve been thinking a lot about its rather tumultuous sequel. So, let’s dive into some of its strengths and weaknesses along with a brief history of tabletop games, the importance of RPGs, and attempts at commodifying said genre.

Assuming there isn’t more to this than we know, it is indeed very embarrassing to see an industry obsessed with being taken seriously as an art form self censor in this way.

You need the grit if you want the pearl, dweebs. No amount of trotting out auteur film directors on stage offsets that need

Horses Is Tame
Horses, the indie game that is too scandalous for either Valve or Epic, is only beyond the pale if you're not familiar with any other art form.

The X-Files is genuinely a timelessly good show, because when not focusing on overarching conspiracy plot, they would really just focus on a single concept and quite crucially, it would cast an incredible actor to center the episode around who would be utterly god damn captivating to watch.

FREELANCER TIP: THE 25% RULE!

The MOMENT payment hits your bank account, calculate 25% of the value of the invoice and then transfer that amount immediately to a savings account and DO NOT TOUCH IT. THAT'S FOR TAXES. Then pay yourself the remaining 75%. Account for this when determining rates!!!
Just calculated how much I will have to pay in self-employment taxes since I've never been a contract employee before and

Oh my god?????

This is awful?????

With Mysteria Ecclesiae finished, that's a wrap for KCD2. It thoughtfully rounds off several of the base game's overarching struggles and sentiments along with Henry's personal story, never shying from the dramatic irony underpinning the whole thing. Be wary of your fealties.

Enjoy 8000 words of me articulating my conflicted feelings over what is otherwise a good game that did not need to shoulder the various expectations its subtitle rightfully implies. Minor spoilers are included, fyi, but don’t sully the surprises of the core mystery. Reposts are always appreciated.

Tip for inexperienced #ttrpg writers: Your book is going to be used many ways—for learning the system, as a reference at the table, just as a fun read, etc. It’s best when to cater to all of those uses.
