Great start of @ipcc.bsky.social #AR7 main reports with 1st ever joint first lead author meeting (#LAM1) of Working Groups I, II & III! Fantastic atmosphere! Amazing organisation of technical support units, with >600 participants! We also had a get-together of the Switzerland-based participants!

With @ethzurich.bsky.social colleagues & friends, we decided to #StandUpForScience this afternoon to express our support for our US colleagues. Science is a common good. Thanks to all those who joined so spontaneously!

Since January 20, like many others, I am no longer using my twitter/X account actively and can be found here on
@bsky.app or on Linked-in (www.linkedin.com/in/sonia-i-s...). I am impressed how quickly the Bluesky community has grown and how constructive the exchanges are on this platform.

Happy new year 2025 to all! Let's continue the fight for improved climate policy and literacy this year.

Very proud of the @ipcc.bsky.social #WGI outline, which includes exciting & highly policy-relevant material and was approved line-by-line by all present WGI experts. Thanks to @robertvautard.bsky.social & Xiaoye Zhang for the great leadership! @sherilee.bsky.social @hanseng.bsky.social

The @ipcc.bsky.social #AR7 scoping meeting successfully took place in Kuala Lumpur last week, with more than 230 experts from 70 countries drafting the outlines of the three Working Group contributions to #IPCC's seventh report assessing policy-relevant science on #climatechange.

On witty ideas, who would be on board for putting together:
1) List of most absurd/wasteful ways to emit CO2
2) Annual awards for "dumbest CO2 footprint of year"
Chagpt suggests "Carbon clown awards" as title :-)
Enjoyed talking about these & other ideas with @davidho.bsky.social in Zurich today!

This is fun and also nice :-) Try out blueskyroast.com. I don't mind being called "The climate crusader of bluesky: A witty environmental vanguard".

New study led by Matt Rodell @thenasaearth.bsky.social & co-written with several colleagues from @issibern.ch water cycle workshop reveals an abrupt decline in terrestrial water storage on land since 2015, consistent with a long-term drying on continents.

Also, it is not binary "1.5°C" or "not 1.5°C". If we don't manage to limit global warming to 1.5°C, the next goal is 1.51°C, etc. The point is every effort is worth it, any avoided emission is worth it. My personal position is that I will not guarantee as scientist that anything above 1.5°C is safe.

Yes, this is long established. We also have extensive material on this topic in the last IPCC report:
