LONG RAMBLING EMOTIONAL THREAD:

It's World AIDS Day. Since the Administration has decided to keep it quiet, I'd like to share my introduction to AIDS.

I grew up in Seattle. My mom remarried a man who had a brother who was a King County Sheriff's Deputy. His name was Terry and he was gay. 1/x

A few thoughts on Christmas carols and songs.

Christmas runs from Dec 25th to Jan 5th. The ~four preceding weeks are Advent. It would be nice if the songs played on the radio reflected the current time period. None of this chaotic jumble of seasons.

What a disaster. If you were a graduate student fabricating citations you’d be kicked out of your program sooooo quickly. Apparently fine though as far as the government is concerned?

Industry with over 330 years of experience in calculating risk: AI is too risky for us.
Canada’s technocrat-led federal government: AI regulation would just SLOW DOWN THE FUTURE.

As a mentor once noted: If you want to get a sense of where things are going, pay attention to the insurance industry.
In more AI bubble news, major insurers are declining to insure risks from AI chatbots & agents, saying AI models are too unpredictable & error-prone with no one clearly liable when things go wrong. Firms & universities better consider this in their rush to adopt AI.

ChatGPT’s signature writing style is everywhere now, and I hate it. It reminds me of when we tried mixing all the beverages at the soda fountain in middle school. We didn’t actually create the perfect drink, we just made a cloying monstrosity that lost everything good about its constituent parts.

Canada's recent creation of a task force to look at what the FDA's staff cuts and lighter regulations could do to food and drug safety here needs to move fast.

And we need more than a task force. We can't trust the FDA to protect Canadians any longer.

If a worker is killed using manufacturing equipment, they don't just clean it up and get back to using it immediately. But that's what happens at road intersections.
Motonormativity is a dangerous disease.
what we should do now is of course close the intersection until it is redesigned. but we won't we will do nothing and wait for the next tragedy.
