Beyond the chaos and confusion of the last few days, Southwark's residents will be wondering who runs Southwark Council - our elected representatives or Labour Party regional officials? Far more questions have arisen than have been answered by the Labour group's re-vote. Who is the new council leader beholden to - the people of Southwark or those who arranged for the re-run election to take place? Were councillors pressured to change their vote, and by whom? Finally, what direction will Southwark Labour, and more importantly, Southwark Council now take? With Southwark Council controversial decisions made about major housing projects, there will be concern that the new leader of the council is the co-owner and director of a lobbying firm that advises clients such as private developers. Southwark's people need a leader that will speak up for them, not big developers. For the real change Southwark is desperately calling out for, vote Green next May.

Southwark Green Party condemns the proscription of Palestine Action by the UK government as a "terrorist organisation". PA have engaged in non-violent disruption tactics to prevent arms manufactured in Britain from causing direct violence on the Palestinian people. This is the first time a domestic protest group has been proscribed and is an incredibly dangerous precedent for protest and civil liberties in the UK. The right to protest, non-violent civil disobedience, and free speech are critical in a healthy democracy, and we call on the government to reverse this decision immediately. Solidarity with Palestine Action, those campaigning against genocide, and the people of Gaza.

Statement on the proposed benefit cuts for disabled people The government's recent suggestions that they will cut benefits for disabled people are deeply alarming. These cuts will marginalise one of society's most vulnerable groups, increase existing inequalities and push many disabled individuals into greater poverty and isolation. With the ongoing cost of living crisis, these cuts are both cruel and unjust. We call on Southwark's five MPs as well as Southwark Council and councillors to take a stand against these harmful proposals. Our elected representatives should vocally oppose these cuts. We urge all political leaders in Southwark and beyond to champion policies that promote equality, inclusion, and dignity for disabled people. Now is the time to fight for a fairer society, not to reduce essential support for those who need it most. Southwark Green Party stands in solidarity with disabled communities and will continue to advocate for a society where everyone is supported to live with dignity and independence.

Southwark Green Party opposes the expansion of Heathrow Airport.

It will lead to more carbon emissions as well as poorer air quality for all Londoners.

There is little evidence that it will lead to growth.

We call on Southwark MPs and Southwark Council to oppose it.
