STV had so much potential, but every time I watched it the news and current affairs felt amateurish, rather parochial, and a bit Glasgow biased. A great pity.
In contrast I've found Gaelic broadcasting to usually be of a higher standard. Maybe we should get them to take it over!

They started dumbing it down about 20 years ago - zero analysis, all repeated headlines. I stopped watching it after 2014, like many Scots, due to the heavy unionist bias, which appears to have got worse. Now it's simply unwatchable. I barely trust their sports reporting let alone their news.

At the time I'd only seen a YouTube headline, so wasn't sure if it was true, but apparently the Big Beautiful Bill defines architects, nurses, accountants and a number of others as no longer professional degrees and reduces dramatically how big a student loan you can get to study them.

It's very unusual - both for Orcadians and archaeologists. Suggests that it's exciting them but that there's some mystery or conflict of knowledge that needs to be resolved before putting opinions on the line. Presumably they feel they need to pre-empt speculation on why they're digging again.

Orkney folk are delightful - gentle, friendly, incredibly hospitable, a lovely accent. You feel welcome wherever you go.

Nowhere near where I once was (junior international eons ago and won a few decent middle level touraments) and gave up match play cos I was too busy with administration and getting old, but still enjoy beating up some of the lesser computers. The Milner-Barry Gambit is always fun against the French.
