The original is called Pimp Wars by Paul J. Martino. The BBS version was still being updated as of a few years ago as far as I know.

As a rule I don't pay attention to hype and marketing.

So I'm taking a wait and see approach. Once there's a product in people's hands I'll give it some more thought. 🙂

His name is Paul aka Avon and is very helpful. He even set up a Youtube channel to help people set up MysticBBS (and has videos on how to connect to message networks).

Not sure how tied you are to the BBS scene in general, so excuse any assumptions. :)
I personally haven't logged into a BBS for a few years, but Fidonet was a hellscape if looking for sane conversation.
A nice guy in NZ set up fsxnet, which is a fido style network, and is much saner. fsxnet.nz
