I finally watched Bring Her Back (2025) and while I found it moving, affecting, and at times uncomfortable, I did not find it at any point… scary. I had a good time, but I don’t anticipate many rewatches. Call me old fashioned, but I do like some horror in my horror films.

More than anything else, Chicago is a tribute to female rage and the frustration with how few options society gives women to respond to maltreatment by men. There’s a reason so many women respond to ‘good for her’ narrative. It’s incredibly validating to see women unrestrained.

Paranormal podcasts love the ‘can’t move, there’s a person at the end of my bed’ sleep paralysis. However, as someone who has been plagued by sleep paralysis my whole life, I’m here to tell you that the kind with hypnogogic & hypnopompic hallucinations is much more fertile ground for scary stories.

I am watching Heathers (1989) tonight because it has been a frankly bad week and this film makes me happy. Also, if I had met JD in high school I would totally have been like ‘fuck yeah let’s kill people’ and run off with him. I would have been super easy to lure into a cult too 😂
