As long as they both agree to support whoever wins the primary in the general election, I'm glad to see a vigorous challenge to anyone who isn't punching their weight in the House or Senate. Come out swinging!
spsnomad.bsky.social
Granted, it's a long shot, but this is a case where someone can do a better job and if Jeffries can't fend off a challenge in his own district, I've got some bad news about his ability to stand up to Republicans in the House.
spsnomad.bsky.social
I'm glad to see this, both because it's shameful that Jeffries couldn't be bothered to endorse Mamdani, but also because Jeffries is completely ineffective in leadership and this would put someone else in charge of the House.

This is exactly what we need. This is it.

"New York City Council member Chi Ossé, a close ally of Zohran Mamdani, is privately discussing a run against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)"
Scoop: Mamdani ally weighs challenging Hakeem Jeffries
Just talking about a potential campaign could drive a further wedge between Mamdani — the democratic socialist in line to be New York's next mayor — and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)

Have ANY of them spoken up in defense of investigative reporting, independence of the press or the need for local media? I mean, it seems like the kind of thing where Rand Paul occasionally stumbles into the right answer, but I haven't seen any GOP senator be candid with the press.
spsnomad.bsky.social
Totally picking a GOP senator at random because none of them have shown a shred of transparency or stood up at all for protecting the free press. The saddest thing ever is that the closest a Republican has come is Ted Cruz's mild pushback about Brendan Carr demanding the firing of Jimmy Kimmel.

They also used one of his songs (Revival) without permission in a recruitment video. ICE is scum.

Opening the egg is supposed to symbolize Jesus ascending to heaven, but it's also a pagan tradition that was absorbed.

Just listened to all the available episodes of Radley Balko’s new podcast, Collateral Damage, about innocent people swept up in the war on drugs. In depth, well-sourced and really well-edited. Very well done.

Everything surrounding Easter in Christianity is a little weird -- palms for Palm Sunday, ashes for Ash Wednesday, why we call the day Jesus was crucified "Good" Friday, why there's a bunny that brings people hard-boiled eggs...

Yup - none of them put their names on the byline.

Who's gonna tell all these dipshit attorneys general that Illinois isn't a border state?
juliedicaro.bsky.social
This is getting wild.

The states of Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and 14 others have just asked for permission to file THEIR amicus brief in IL v. Trump.
The States of Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and 14 additional States
respectfully move for leave to submit the attached amicus curiae brief in support of Defendants
and their opposition to Plaintiffs’ requested temporary restraining order and preliminary
injunction. Proposed amici are States with a vested interest in federalism, the relationship between
States and the federal government, and deploying the National Guard. We also each have a vital
interest in supporting the President and Congress in enacting and enforcing valid immigration
laws. Every State has a responsibility to protect our citizens.
The federalization of States’ National Guard units is a matter of profound public
importance, as it directly implicates the delicate balance of power between state and federal
governments—a true cornerstone of Federalism. States generally maintain authority over their
National Guard units, allowing governors to deploy them for state-specific needs, such as disaster
response or public safety. Federalization of state National Guard units without gubernatorial

At first glance, the frog appears to be presenting no threat, but the foolish ICE agents aren't aware that they're all within tongue range.

I love this so much.

OK. It's going to be coming out soon because of the relentless investigations of Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, so I might as well admit it before the news breaks:

I am the General Counsel of Antifa.

Thanks - I appreciate you letting me know. Still sucks, of course.

Thanks for the correction - definitely still sucks.

CNN is now using the Trump preferred “Department of War” name in its official statements

"Merry Christmas! Hope you like crap!"

(In case anyone wondered "could that get any uglier", yes it can; they make a Halloween one and the camo is orange and black)
spsnomad.bsky.social
I noticed the Punisher skull and the Trump hair on it before, but the thing that really kills me is the Santa hat, like Kash is sitting in on design meetings, going "OK, we got the K$H logo on everything, but you know where I'm seeing a demand gap? Christmas merch. Get on it!"

Yeah, I read it all, mainly wondering why the POLICY isn't different (warn them they'll be arrested, charged for the seat, banned from the airline, etc. and don't divert unless they get violent or threaten people.)
spsnomad.bsky.social
I’m also surprised a bunch of passengers who didn’t plan on a detour to Denver didn’t offer him a choice between moving to another seat or getting tuned up for his choices.
spsnomad.bsky.social
Kind of wondering why they don’t just land as planned and either have the police take him into custody for petty theft and whatever statute he’s violating by refusing to comply with the crew and then ban him for life.
spsnomad.bsky.social
ICE has arrested US citizens, people legally here awaiting asylum hearings and accused people of being in gangs solely based on anodyne stuff like tattoos and Bulls caps, so I’m skeptical of both counts.
spsnomad.bsky.social
They raided 130 apartments, kicked in doors and detained everyone for hours to find 37 people they accused of being undocumented and, depending on the reporting, either one or two accused gang members. If there ever WAS a warrant, no one has seen it.

This is Chicago and I’m bummed that I don’t have enough time to photoshop an Italian beef or hot dog in place of the cannon right now.
