You should listen to the behind the bastards episode on the guy who birthed modern stand up/comedian monologues. Daily show definitely marked a shift, because it was on tv for normies.

Diner toast is the best toast because it’s got the best texture when you bite in. Crisp, light, oily. That’s my top pick

My grandmother had one culinary skill if nothing else: she made delightful gravy. You reconstituted the beef with it

My mom came to my dad’s coworker’s family thanksgiving for the first time, and brought a pie for the dinner. It was a pecan pie. She didn’t know this was apparently the family matriarch’s pie. An aunt complimented the matriarch effusively on her new recipe. It was my mother’s. southern drama ensues

My mother cooked a prime rib for her parents once. Once. Perfectly roasted it, medium rare and her dad was so excited. Her mother was aghast at first slice, snatched it off the table and microwaved it for ten minutes. Hurt my mom: it was over a hundred bucks of meat and this was the early 90s.

It’s actually kind of cool bc sheep have like, three functional genders. Rams and ewes but also wethers who live with the rams when it isn’t lambing season. A “bell wether” is named after them bc their castration means they’re not poisoned with testosterone and are usually the lead.

Something deeply fucked up when you can blindly break basic state functions and condemn millions to death and then people make you the richest man in the world instead of a pariah

I do not personally have the knowledge, but I hope y’all do an episode about this guy. I try, but I become even more blinded with rage every time I engage with this statue and legacy. Fuck slavers. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
How a controversial St. John's statue was actually propaganda for a Portuguese dictatorship | CBC News
Critics focusing on Gaspar Corte-Real's connection to slavery may not know that his statue was erected to spread influence for António Salazar's regime.
