Early entrant in the detached, disciplined assassin genre and understandably an inspiration of many, superior follow-ups. A quietly effective film with an awful lot to love and maybe a few more rough edges than sentimentality would like to admit.

Once again I’m a little unsold on McQueen’s performance. And, while I appreciate the poetry of the whole can’t-be-tied-down thing, it leaves a bitter aftertaste.

A loosely true biopic with themes of imperfection and acceptance, intermixed with gender roles, and presented within a musical romantic-comedy framework.

Streisand’s film debut didn’t disappoint.

The Hobbit Trilogy

Retains the production quality and scope of LOTR, with little of its charm - and almost none at all of the novel. What should have been a simpler, lighter tale of adventure is swelled into a dark, discordant, CGI-laden monstrosity.

“Oh, for God’s sake, Jeremy, give your brain a chance.”

I’m impressed by its aerial stunts and evidently expensive production, but the result is pretty tedious due to bland storytelling. Remarkable, given the significance and stakes involved.

A teacher promotes student interest in literature by making it subversive.

Boyhood rebellion, self-discovery, angst, and tragedy ensue. A few performances and a little missing focus kept it from coming all the way together for me.
